The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) is responsible for making health care decisions for persons who are unable to make those decisions for themselves as a result of mental incapacity. When our Office receives a request for such a decision from a health care professional, it is our goal to contact the health care professional within 24 hours.
Health practitioners may contact the Treatment Decisions Unit in the applicable area of the province, as noted below. The program operates from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 8:45 am to 1:30 pm on weekends and holidays.
